DescriptionHorizontal Dial with Compass with brown leather case
The horizontal dial and magnetic compass are seperate, each mounted on a square brass plate. The gnomon for the dial is also seperate and mounts on the dial with four brass pins. The chapter ring is marked 4-12-1-8 with linear interpolation to 1 minute increments. The gnomon is designed for a latitude of 52°. The compass rose is divided into 16 points marked Nort, N.N.O., N.O., O.N.O., Ost, O.S.O., S.O., S.S.O., Sud, S.S.W., S.W., W.S.W., West, W.N.W., N.W., and N.N.W. A 360° scale (offset to true North) in 1° increments is also provided. There is a magnetic declination mark at 19° W of N.,square,The provision for linear interpolation of the chapter ring to 1 minute intervals is very unusual.
