          DescriptionThis stand consists of four wooden legs supporting a precise positioning mechanism. Two micrometric screws, one each for the x and y axes, move a square part with a center hole. On top of the latter is a small handle equipped with an endless screw.

          It was most likely used as a ruling engine to produce, for instance, diffraction gratings. The part required to actually cut or groove the grating is missing.
