DescriptionThis is a Hartnack medium compound microscope. It has a heavy horseshoe-shaped base, a flange arm with a circular post, and a monocular body with a sliding eyepiece tube for the coarse focus. The fine adjustment is by a knob located on top of the post.
There is square stage with a circular black glass insert. Located beneath the stage is a thick circular plate with a slide and tube for disk diaphragms, and a plane-concave mirror on an adjustable arm.
The entire stand can be rotated about the center of the stage. The purpose was evidently to allow oblique illumination from different azimuths, not specimen rotation.
This instrument is accompanied by a flat wooden case for storage.
