          DescriptionA mercurial barometer consisting of a cylindrical black metal frame with a silvered scale on one of its ends (650-820 mm) It has a cylindrical brass canister with a large window and a small screw at its bottom. It has a thermometer attached to one side.

          When not in use, it is stored in a rectangular wooden box. Instructions have been pasted to the box's inside lid.

          Curatorial RemarksThe name Tycos was used until 1932.
          FunctionA portable instrument for measuring atmospheric pressure. When in use, it would be placed vertically (preferrably on a tripod) with the canister at the bottom. The height of the mercury in the canister would be adjusted first with the screw, and then the reading would be taken from the scale on the upper part of the barometer at the place of the mercury level.

          Its thermometer is used to make corrections to the readings at temperatures different from the standard.
