DescriptionThe telescope is fixed between two "inverted-V" columns. The telescope has one focusing knob, shades and cross hairs. Fixed under it is a bubble level. A graduated circle with vernier is used to measure the telescope angle. Under the telescope is a compass and two perpendicular bubble levels (one at the compass's level, the other fixed to a column). This structure pivots in the horizontal plan and its position is finely determined by two vernier scales. It rests on a sturdy mount with four leveling screw. The latter is fixed to a tripod.
The instrument is mounted on a wooden base, for display.
When not in use, the transit and its accessories were stored in a carrying case. It is not original to this instrument, since there is a label inside mentioning the Buff & Buff Manufacturing Co. (Perhaps the seller, though these transits were so similar from one company to the other that the cases could fit most of them.)
