DescriptionThis radiation hazard sign is made of cardboard and has the radiation warning symbol (or trefoil) in red against a yellow background. It reads, "CAUTION / RADIATION AREA," above and below the trefoil. In the upper left corner, it is marked, "mr/hr / date." This refers to dosage of radiation in terms of millirem per hour.

Historical AttributesThis sign hung in the outer vault area of the Harvard Cyclotron Laboratory, where it warned of the radiation from the accelerator in operation and from stored radioactive material. It may have been installed as early as the 1960s. It was removed when the HCL was decommissioned in 2002.
