Material
DescriptionAn unmarked black rod (44cm long and 1.1cm in diameter) with gently rounded ends. Running through a hole in one end is an insulated wire (120cm long and 0.5cm in diameter); the wire is not affixed to the rod at any single position along its length. At one end, the wire has a shielded plug (kept in place by a small, flat-head screw). At the other end, the wire has a corroded contact. A shorter piece of the same kind of insulated wire (35cm long) with copper contacts on either end, is bolted on one end to the corroded contact. The other end is free.

FunctionPresumably, the rod was meant to be submerged in a liquid of some kind in order to measure some variable factor such as temperature or salinity.
