DescriptionFolding rule with built-in bubble level, trough compass, thermometer, right-angle tool, and wrench.
The folding rule is constructed primarily of boxwood laminated with nickel-silver. Both sides as well as the edges of the rule are engraved with a series of scales, as well as tables and a graph for calculating area and volume. The two arms of the rule pivot around a ring marked with inclination scales. The inner ring of the circle is brass.
The rule has a number of slots and compartments for the additional tools. The bubble level and compass are visible through oval windows in the sides and edges of the folding rule. The thermometer sits inside a cylindrical tunnel, and the right-angle tool slots into the side of the folding rule. The wrench fits into a cut-out on one side of the rule.
The instrument is stored in a brown leather case held closed by the insertion of a pencil or rod (missing) through leather loops along one edge. The inside of the case is painted white and has several handmade inscriptions.
