DescriptionA brass balance on a wooden stand. Contrary to most balances this one is not symmetrical, with the beam extending far on use side to form the indicator needle against a brass arch. The trays have weights hanging from them that extend below the wooden stand contained within glass compartments. There is one more compartment just below the pivot point with another needle inside.
Signedon base of balance: KNOTT
on upper arm: N. V. JULIAN H. BECKER / DELFT
FunctionDetermines weight of a sample. The use of the beam as an indicator would probably make it more accurate despite its simplicity. The design would require the weights under the trays for the system to be balanced before any measurement.
