Material
DescriptionThe whole instrument is fixed on a wooden platform. It consists of cast-iron tripod supporting a rotating plateau, on top of which is set a smaller plateau on three leveling screws. The larger plateau has a small window through which a graduated circle is seen. A vernier permits precision measurements. A long swivelling arm rotates with the larger plateau. On the arm is a telescope, a block of wood, a plate holder and a socket on which was probably screwed a light bulb. The socket and plate holder are adjustable on the arm. A prism, missing here, would have been needed in this experimental set-up.
