DescriptionOne arm of this instrument is equipped with an eyepiece and a double prism, on which there is an oval-shaped reflecting plate painted white on one side and black on the other. The two other arms have Nicol prisms inside and electric light bulbs that serve as light sources. Both Nicol prisms can rotate inside their respective tube, their angle given by a graduated circle divided in single degrees from 0 to 360. One of these arms is fixed, the other rotates. Its position is determined by a graduated circle divided in single degrees and going from 20-0-200. A cut-out window without vernier is used to read the angle of rotation. The three arms can be slightly tilted in the vertical axis by means of thumb screws found underneath the tubes. In the center there is a rotating stage on which is clamped a black mirror. The whole instrument is supported by a tripod base.
