DescriptionThis is a Robert Field & Son monocular compound microscope. The instrument is constructed of brass and is supported by a heavy cast-iron foot painted green. Two flat pillars extend from the base and hold the inclinable stand. The body tube is attached to a horizontal arm and an inclining brace. The coarse focus is by rack and pinion. The fine adjustment is by a screw located on the body tube.
The microscope has a square stage with a hole in the center. A mirror on a swinging bar sits below the stage.
There is a standing wooden case with five drawers for storing the instrument and related accessories.
