          DescriptionThe horizontal dial is mounted together with a small magnetic compass in a case with hinged lid similar ro a watch case. The gnomon for the dial is a string that extends from the chapter ring to the lid at a fixed angle when the lid is fully opened. The chapter ring is marked 4-12-1-8 with no subdivisions. The gnomon is designed for a latitude of roughly 45°. The compass rose is divided into 16 points with every other point marked N, NO, O, SO, S, SW, W, and NW with 9° subdivisions. There is a magnetic declination mark at about 10° west of North.,circular
