          DescriptionThe chapter ring is engraved on a rectangular brass plate mounted to a wooden base with a compass located at one end. The gnomon for the dial is hinged to fold flat onto the dial plate for storage. There are three chapter rings for 46°, 48°, and 50° latitudes. The inner chapter ring is marked IV-XII-I-VIII with 1/2 hour subdivisions. The string gnomon support has holes for 46°, 48°, and 50°. The compass rose is divided into 4 points with every point marked SE, OR, ME, and OC. There are no subdivisions. There is a magnetic declination mark at about 10° west of North.,Gnomon support and dial plate are finely engraved with arms and symbols that might provide identity of original owner.,rectangular
