AccessoriesTolles objective marked 4" on case but scratched 1 1/2 on barrel, dated 5/20/1873; Tolles solid ocular 34 mm diameter.
DescriptionLarge diameter and long optical assembly tube. Coarse focus is by rack and pinion. Coarse focus motion of the tube is guided by line contact only of V guides tothe tube. The fine focus is by a lever from the side about two inches up. Arm seems to be a casting (possibly bronze) that is painted black. Rest of stand is brass. The removable stage has no motion.

The instrument has an unusual very long, low-power objective with an extendable rear element. Perhaps it has a variable focal length or zoom function. The objective is marked 4" on the case but scratched 1 1/2 on the barrel. It is dated May 20, 1873. The front element is partly decemented.

The eyepiece is a Tolles solid ocular of 34 mm diameter.
