DescriptionThis is a Culpeper-type compound microscope with optical tubes made of wood and vellum. One is covered with shagreen. The turned legs for the tripods above and below the stage are brass. The stage is circular. The circular base of the microscope is made of lignum vitae as are the base of the optical assembly and top of the draw tube. The base sits in a brass ring with scalloped edging. There is a condensing lens mounted on the stage; and a concave mirror under the stage.
The pyramidal box is oak and has Culpeper's trade card pasted to the back above the drawer.
