        DescriptionThis is a Culpeper-type compound microscope with optical tubes made of wood covered with vellum and shagreen. The legs for the tripod above the stage are turned brass. The legs for the tripod below the stage have a slight scrolling shape. They are also brass. The stage is triform (having three wings). The base of the microscope is octagonal and has a drawer. It is made of wood (probably deal and oak) stained a dark color. A piece of the veneer is missing. The bottom of the optical assembly and top of the draw tube are lignum vitae. The upper part of the draw tube, which would have held the eye lens, is missing.
