          DescriptionThe frame is supported by four legs. The surface or platform of the instrument is made of two pie-shaped sections. On each of them, a graduated radius arm (0-55 cm) pivots from a central point. Each arm is equipped with a slider on which a mirror is mounted diagonally. At the center of the instrument, two other smaller mirrors are mounted on pillars. The height and horizontal position of each can be adjusted to the subject's eye. In between them was an adjustable support for the chin (missing). The distance between these two mirrors can also be adjusted. A small graduated line (20-40 mm) provides a reading of this separation.

          FunctionA sterescope is a type of haploscope, but not vice versa. The haploscope is a more versatile instrument, which is used for presenting separate views to each eye so that they may be seen as one integrated view.
