DescriptionA glass tube consisting of a thin, long stem with a cylindrical bulb at one end. At the opposite end, the glass bulb expands to a heart-shaped hollow chamber with a short narrow neck on top with a ground rim.

The long stem of the tube is marked with a scale that goes from 20 to 22.4 increasing upwards. It has markings every 0.02 units and numbers every 0.2 units.

Its top neck is stopped with cotton.
SignedAlong neck, near scale, "Dr. H. Geissler Nachf Frz. Müller in Bonn."
          Inscribedscale from 20-22.4
FunctionThis is most likely a hydrometer for determining the density of liquids that are lighter than water. Unlike most hydrometers, it is open at the top. It apparently has a Baume scale that translates to densities between 0.9186 and 0.933. One would need to fill it with a liquid (mercury?) before its use.
