        Material
DescriptionA glass tube consisting of a thin, long stem with a cylindrical bulb at one end. At the opposite end, the glass bulb expands to a heart-shaped hollow chamber with a short narrow neck on top with a ground rim.

The long stem of the tube is marked with a scale that goes from 20 to 22,5 increasing upwards. It has markings every 0.02 units and numbers every 0.2 units.

SignedAlong neck, near scale: Dr. H. Geissler Nachf Frz. Müller in Bonn.
FunctionThis is most likely a hydrometer for determining the density of liquids that are lighter than water. Unlike most hydrometers, it is open at the top. It apparently has a Baume scale that translates to densities between 0.918 and 0.933. One would need to fill it with a liquid (mercury?) before its use.
