SignedSigned "O.F.C Troyburg" / "55" / "1734" / "T.M." engraved on face of dial.
Curatorial RemarksAppraisal by Brieux, 9/24/84: $500. O.F.C. may be monogram of owner which also appears on a crown compass in the Museum for Arts and Crafts in Hamburg, Germany. Drecker suggested that the location was Denmark which is consistent with 55° but there is a town of Treuburg at 54°22' in what was Prussia and now is Olecko in Poland.
FunctionTime finding at one latitude after orienting the gnomon to point toward true North.
ProvenanceJoseph Drecker, Aachen, Germany, before 1928 (no. 225); Frederik Casparus Wieder, Noordwijk, The Netherlands, 1928; D. P. Wheatland, Topsfield, MA, 1959; gift to CHSI, ca. 1987.
