DescriptionHorizontal Dial with Compass dated 1754
The horizontal dial is mounted together with a magnetic compass in a wooden case with a brass plate for a top surface. The gnomon for the dial is detachable and mounts to the base via two prongs that fit into corresponding slots in the chapter ring. The chapter ring is marked IV-XII-I-VIII with 1/2 hour subdivisions. The gnomon is designed for a latitude of approximately 49°. The compass rose is divided into 8 points with no legend. There is a magnetic declination mark at about 20° west of North.,rectangular,There is a long but illegible inscription handwritten in ink on the back of the wooden base.
