DescriptionEquinoctial dial with a continuous circular chapter ring markedIIII-XII, I-VIII, subdivided in 1/4 hour increments. The vertical angle of the chapter ring is adjustable for northern latitudes from 0° to 74°, calibrated in 1° increments. The compass rose is divided into 8 points with every point marked: "N", "NE", "E", "SE", "S", "SO", "O", and "NO" with a magnetic declinationscale scale marked 30°-0°-30° in 1° increments. Latitiudes in degrees for 6 European towns are engraved on the chapter ring.,square
Curatorial RemarksNo datasheet found in filing cabinet. Dial is probably from France.
FunctionTime-finding by orienting the gnomon to point toward the North Pole with the aid of a magnetic compass and an angular adjustment for latitiude.
