DescriptionEquinoctial dial with an open, partially circular chapter ring marked V-XII, I-VII, subdivided in 1/4 hour increments. The vertical angle of the chapter ring is adjustable for northern latitudes from 0° to 70°, calibrated in 1° increments. Curatorial RemarksAppraisal by Brieux, 9/24/84: $1000. Maker not listed in Augarde or Daumas
FunctionTime-finding by orienting the peep hole so as to cause a spot of light to fall on the line in the center of the chapter ring. The peep hole must first be adjusted for the sun's declination but no compass is required for orientation. The function of this dial is identical to that of a universal equinoctial ring dial.
